To take a screenshot on your Mac

  • To take a screenshot of your entire screen:
    • Press [shift] + [command] + [3]
  • Your computer will save an image of your screen to your desktop.
  • To take a screenshot of a part of your screen:
    • Press [shift] + [command] + [4] -> this will change your cursor into cross-hairs.
  • Click and drag to highlight the portion of the screen you want to capture.
  • Your computer will save an image of this on your desktop.
  • To take a screenshot of just a particular window, sheet, or menu:
    • Press [shift] + [command] + [4], then the [space] key
  • This will change your cursor into a Camera.
  • Click on the window/sheet you want to capture.
  • Your computer will save an image of this on your desktop.

To copy the image to the clipboard instead of saving it on the desktop, hold the [control] button. eg: Press [control]+[shift]+[command]+[4], -> [space] -> click on the window/sheet you want to capture. Now you can paste this into a body of an email message or a text document using [command] + [v]

Before you email us the screenshot, in the message window, please set the "Image Size" to "Actual Size." This will ensure that we can view the screenshot clearly and in its actual size.

To take a screenshot on your iOS device.

To take a screenshot on an iOS device (iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone), press then release the home button and the power/sleep button at the same time. These buttons do not need to be held down for long, just a simple press and release. The screen should flash white, and there should be a camera shutter sound (if the volume is on) to indicate a successful screenshot. Open the Photos app and click Camera Roll to view the screenshot.
